Is it worth giving a rare name if the surname is common and quite simple?

Name, patronymic and surname should be organic, consonant. Very often, parents want to stand out, emphasize their individuality, and this is to the detriment of children. For example:
Spartak in Greek means «resident of the city of Sparta», and Yaroslavna is generally, according to one version, a patronymic, like Petrovna, Ivanovna, etc. Historical figure — Anna Yaroslavna, daughter of Yaroslav the Wise, was the Queen of France and went down in history. Very often, such incidents happen because of the illiteracy of parents and then children will have to pay for it all their lives.
Rare name: to call the child by it or not
Therefore, if you want to name your child with a rare name, then:
Try to find out more information about the meaning, origin and characteristics of this name.
Pay attention not only to the full, but also to all possible variants of the abbreviated name. For example: Violetta is a very beautiful name. But in ordinary life, the girl is called Velya, for me it doesn’t sound very nice.
Be sure to say aloud the combination of last name, first name and patronymic. You need to understand how it will be perceived by others. After all, a person still receives documents and introduces himself in life.
Calling your child a rare name makes sense only if it is organically combined with a patronymic and surname.

Since ancient times, children were called according to the calendar and rightly so — each person has his own guardian angel and it would be better if the name matches (Mikhail, Nikolai, Alexei, Anna, Maria, Lizaveta, Katerina . ..).

You can call a rare name , but only in such a way that, firstly, it is consonant with the patronymic. Secondly: it didn’t sound strange or offensive, still think about the child, he should live with this name! You do not want to be teased, offended because of his strange name? My husband and I have chosen a name for our daughter — Ulyana! It seems rare, but consonant with the patronymic, it turned out Ulyana Kirillovna! Of course, the name for your baby is a very individual topic, but still, I think you should not name such names because of which they will suffer and will not at all thank their parents for this.

In my childhood, which took place in the 90s, everything was quite simple and clear with names. Most parents did not invent, invent or squeeze out names for their children, trying to make them unique and make themselves original, although there were some.
Of course, there were books with torn, yellowed pages that were passed down from generation to generation, from door to door with a whole list of the main names in the Soviet Union. But everyone already knew them.
And then there were Brazilian and Mexican series. You probably remember them. They went to ORT after 18.00, just at the moment when most Russians were returning home from work and preparing dinner, stuck at the screens of their Records and Panasonic, looking at their favorite characters from the Tower of Babel and Air castles».
It was then that not just spectators appeared, but real fans of soap operas. Who were zombified by serial intrigues so much that they began to call their children the names of their favorite characters. After that, girls began to appear with the names of Judy, Latifa, Julia and boys with the names of Ricardo, Nestor and Alejandro.
And then came the «zero», the time of computerization of the population and the emergence of the Internet. While some were trying to solve Spider Solitaire, others learned how to use a search engine, began to cook better and more varied thanks to millions of culinary recipes, remembered dozens of quotes and statuses, read thousands of jokes, and future parents, among other things, discovered a new world where It turns out there are lists of millions of different names.
And every year, new original names appear. And some of them parents invent themselves. So, for example, in the early 2000s, I remember, they wanted to call the boy a digital combination, but the registry office refused to register. Yes, this is very original, unique and no one has such a name, but … will the child himself be happy with such uniqueness, say, when he grows up and begins to understand that his name is just a set of numbers, even important ones.
How to introduce yourself to a girl? My name is 024567? Or, as his friends will call him, because here it will no longer be possible to shout: «Sanya, Vov, or Seryoga!».
But, if digital names are the edge, then weird names are just too much. Lucifer, Count, Master. You will not believe, but there is a name «Man». Probably, parents have long puzzled over how to name their baby. When choosing a name, many take inspiration from inanimate objects: flowers, mountains, rivers, and even cars. And this is quite normal and ordinary, but even here quirks slip through. For example, what do you think of the name «Lexus»? I wonder if anyone would think of calling their child «Nine», or, even worse, «Six». Or name your daughter «Birch»?
In no way am I trying to hurt the feelings of such people, and I’m not trying to ridicule their choice. But, there are many who are 100% sure that this is not so much a manifestation of originality as stupidity, absurdity and recklessness. Some believe that it is not worth deviating from the canons, and it is better to choose ordinary, simple names, those with which it will be easier for the child. Why show off and call the child Prahlada, if you can call Olya. But maybe in 100 — 150 years, it is Prahlada, Ogneslav and Kian who will sit and wonder how you can call your baby Ivan, Peter or Lyosha.
What do you think, is it worth it to invent a new and unique name for a child, or is it better to choose old, time-tested names?

As the owner of the rare name Yesenia, I can say that this has both pluses and minuses.
Pluses
- Rare (especially female names) are liked by others and frequent compliments bring a smile to the face.
- In all my life, I have never come up with an offensive or offensive nickname, consonant with my name, while my girlfriends / classmates always gave them, then changed them.
- Being at resorts in other countries, people quickly perceived my name and did not focus on it, which greatly simplified communication.
- I have never had a problem with being afraid that I was not called. If they contact me, it is immediately clear.
Cons
- In our country, people do not remember/perceive my name . That is, being Yesenia, my names were Xenia, Evgenia, Eva, Senya, Yasya and Arsenia. So be prepared that someone else’s name will show off on some letter of your child)
- Not all rare names are included in the keyboard settings. This means that when filling out electronic documents, you need to check whether the name of the child is entered correctly. (Unfortunately, I had such moments).
- It’s more of a puzzle, but when I was 15-16, my girlfriends and I searched the Internet for the names of guys and the characteristics of our names. While they were laughing and picking up acquaintances with suitable names, I could not do this due to the fact that mine was simply not in the register.
- Since the name is not given to everyone to remember, sometimes abbreviations really infuriate and annoy.
