Celebration of Life Services for Lucille M. Nelson-Nolte were conducted from the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, Nebraska on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tom Thompson officiating. Private family interment will be held prior to the services at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, Nebraska.
Lucille Marjorie Nelson-Nolte, 92 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. She was born April 15, 1922 in Holdrege, the second of three daughters born to Dewey F. and Jessie E. (Martin) Tupper. She attended elementary school in Holdrege and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1941. Lucille then worked several jobs following her education and it was over a cup of coffee she met Gunnar H. Nelson.
On September 21, 1943, Lucille was united in marriage to Gunnar at Phillipsburg, Kansas and to this union two sons were born: Marvin H. D. Nelson and Billy D. Nelson. Following Gunnar’s service in the United States Army, the family made their home north of Holdrege and later north of Loomis, where they engaged in farming for almost 20 years. Lucille focused on raising the boys and also worked side-by-side with Gunnar on the farm. Once the boys were in school, she worked various jobs including: Ben Franklin, JC Penny’s, Phelps County Treasurer’s office, Loomis Café, and the Loomis Public School in the kitchen. Lucille was employed by the First State Bank in Loomis for 14 years until her retirement. During her retirement years, she enjoyed working at the Bridal Isle in Loomis and loved keeping busy answering the phone and helping out in any way she could at her granddaughter Cindy’s hair salon, the Hide-A-Way in Loomis.
Lucille and Gunnar made twelve trips back and forth to Sweden through years visiting Gunnar’s family. She was preceded in death by Gunnar on January 13, 2002. After a year had passed, Lucille was fortunate enough to find love again and on March 22, 2003, she was united in marriage to William H. Nolte at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege. They made their home in Holdrege, where they spent every day together and lived life to the fullest; dancing, traveling, staying active, day trips to Wal-Mart and just enjoying each other’s company.
For many years she attended the United Methodist Church in Loomis. Lucille loved to crochet, was an excellent cook, enjoyed tending to her yard, and always loved to visit over a cup of coffee with family and friends.
Lucille leaves to mourn her passing; her husband, Bill Nolte of Holdrege; her son, Marvin Nelson and his wife, Avis of Loomis; five grandchildren: Christine Nelson of Loomis, Cynthia Collin and her husband, Ted of Loomis,
Vern Nelson and his wife, Traci of Tulsa, OK, Lona Milks and her husband, Leonard of Funk, Nebraska and Debbie Komenda and her husband, Brian of Holdrege; ten great-grandchildren: Benjamin and his wife, Arielle, Amber and April Collin, Tatum, Aleah and Gunnar Nelson, Hadley and Nelson Milks, and Kade and Kelsey Komenda; her husband, Bill’s daughter, Euna Vosburg and her husband, Scott of Holdrege; brother-in-law, Dale Huff of Kearney, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Mary Grell and her husband, Dick of Iowa City, Iowa; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Gunnar, she was preceded in death by her son, Billy Dean who was a Marine killed in the Vietnam War on July 20, 1966; two sisters: Evelyn Dodson and her husband, Duane, and Leola Huff and brothers-in-law: Gusta Nelson and Clarence Johnson.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 26, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Lucille’s honor and kindly suggested to the Loomis Fire and Rescue.
The Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege was charge of arrangements.
